MASTERTON CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS,
MR F. 11.-DUNDERDALE ELECTED
LIFE MEMBER
There was an attendance of between 40 and 50 bowlers at the annual meeting of the Masterton Bowling Club held at the club pavilion last night. Mr S. V. Gooding, the club's -president, •presided. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, which has already been published in the "Times-Age. the president stressed the need for a larger membership. "With increased costs it is very difficult for our club with a membership of something like eighty to run two greens.” said Mr Gooding. Mr Gooding also appealed to the members to support the social and bridge evenings that had been arranged by the committee during the offseason. He especially thanked the green superintendent, Mr G. Beecroft and the caretaker for their splendid work on the greens. "Next year we will have almost a perfect playing service,” he said.
Mr A. Owen Jones seconded the motion which was carried.
On the motion of the president. Mr F. H. Dunderdale, patron of the club, was elected a hon. life member. "Seldom does a sporting club have such a loyal member as Mr Dunderdale." said Mr Gooding. "The service rendered by him to this club over a long period of years has been outstanding. He is a sportsman and gentleman and possesses all the qualifications necessary for a life member of this club," he said.
Mr Owen Jones seconded the motion which was carried after several members had spoken of the splendid work done for the Masterton Bowling Club by Mr Dunderdale. Six new members were elected. The following trophies won during the year were presented by Mr Gooding:—Champion singles, Mr V. C. Taylor; champion pairs, Messrs A. Stubbings and J. Finlayson; champion fours. Messrs J. Skeet, D. Thomson, W. Hendry, W. Christian; club fours, Messrs F.'Mills, H. H. Daniell, J. F. Roberts, W. Hendry; colts singles, Mr J. V. Gordon; handicap singles, Mr J. A. Russell.
The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr F. H. Dunderdale; president, Mr S. V. Gooding; vicepresident, Messrs H. H. Daniell and G. Hayne; hon. treasurer, Mr J. F. Roberts; seccretary, Mr W. E. Vowell; committee, Messrs G. Beecroft, A. W. Charleson, F. Mills, W. Reid, J. A. Russell; selector. Mr D. F. Thurston; match committee, Messrs W. Hendry, W. McCullough and W. Lewis; hon. auditor, Mr A. Owen Jones; delegates to the Wairarapa Bowling Centre, Messrs G. Hayne, F. Roberts and H. M. Morton; board stewards, Messrs A. Carstens, G. Beecroft, W. Davis; publicity officer, Mr C. Perry. It was decided that a substitute in club competitions must play in the position of the player for whom he was substituting. It was decided that in champion fours substitutes may be drawn from members not necessarily playing in that competition. Club'competitions for the ensuing season will be the same as last year with the exception that club fours will not be played, and on the commencement of club competitions champion fours are to be played at 1.30 p.m. on Saturdays.
The delegates to the Wairarapa Bowling Centre were instructed to vote against the Booth Cup competition.
The club will visit the Soldiers' Club on August 16, thirty-two members taking part.
