WEDDING
YOUNGER—BLAMIRES. An unusual and charming note of decoration was featured on the wedding gown worn by Miss Betty Blamires for her wedding to Mr Donald Younger in Wellington on Saturday evening. New Zealand birch leaves, painted with gold, outlined the neckline and train of her cream embossed velvet frock worn over a foundation of magnolia satin. A headdress of gold leaves held in place her tulle veil, which was edged with lace and gold, and she carried, in place of the customary bouquet, a Testament, covered in white velvet, which had been presented at her christening in Wellington by the late Rev F. W. Isitt. The bride’s lovely frock was designed and made by hei’ mother. The bride is the daughter of the Rev and Mrs E. O. Blamires, Wellington, and formerly of Masterton. and the bridegroom is the son of Mr and Mrs D. L. Younger, Cinder Hill, Feilding. The ceremony was held in the Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, the Rev H. L. Blamires and the Rev Percy Paris officiating. Arum lilies, arranged by the bridesmaids, decorated the church, and during the service Mr Roy Hill sang. The bride was escorted by her father.
Four bridesmaids attended the bride, wearing berry red velvet frocks trimmed with white fur and carrying white fur muffs in which scarlet berries nestled. Clusters of berries finished their white fur coronets. They were Miss Vivienne and Miss Pat Blamires, sisters of the bride, and Miss Ida Lawson and Miss June Smith (Hamilton).
Mr H. A. Stewart was the best man and the groomsman was Mr G. Goggin. A reception was hold at the home of Mrs A. Longmore, 15 Brougham Street. Bowls of daphne decorated the hall and dining-room, and arum lilies were used in the drawing-room and in the dining-room to carry out the decorative -theme, the wedding cake being plainly iced with a design of lilies and topped with a spray of real freezias and maidenhair fern.
Mrs Blamires received about 100 guests in a black velvet frock trimmed with a high collar of white fur. The bridegroom’s mother wore black velvet with 'red flowers and Mrs Longmore was in a gown of black lace, to which she added a spray of cherry red flowers.
For travelling the bride wore an ensemble of amethyst angora, with accessories to tone, and a hat, cape and muff of musquash fur.
