AKITIO RETICULATION

LOAN MONEY QUESTION.

(“Times-Age” Special.)

An announcement that a financial agent in Wellington had advised by letter that he would be able to assist in raising the second portion of the Akitio loan of £40.000 on a 20 year term at 4j per cent, was made by the Secretary-Manager of the Tararua Power Board, Mr W. F. Taylor, at the usual meeting of the Board. The Secretary-Manager held out hope that the reticulation of Akitio would be continued.

The chairman remarked that they had already spent £11.176 on the reti dilation, and had only borrowed £lO,OOO so far. There was security for raising of £40,000, and they now needed another £lO,OOO of that.

The secretary-manager reported further that he had been in touch with Mr J. Robertson, M.P., who had said he would do what he could. Mr Robertson had said about a fortnight later that he couldn't find any money, and there was none.

It was decided that Mr Taylor be authorised to go to Wellington to negotiate with the financial agent for the raising of £lO,OOO. The chairman pointed out that unless more money was forthcoming for the loan, work would have to be stopped after the completion of the loop line as they could not go on paying for the work out of the electricity account.

The engineer said that it was desirable to complete the loop line in case of a breakage on the Puketoi range. The additional cost would be under £2,000. The Haunui extension would also be completed as soon as the necessary poles arrived. This would finish all the work this side of Pongaroa. All the wire for this work was on hand, and only an additional 65 poles would be required. Reporting on work done during the month in the Akitio County, the engineer (Mr D. Fraser) stated: The Raka unui and Rimu Road extensions have been completed and livened up. The line stall's are now working in the Tiraumea district where good progress is being made. Five and a half miles of main line poles have been erected from the end of the existing line at Tiraumea towards the Waihoke Valley also three -quarters of a mile of the Hau ■ nui extension. The stringing of the 11 k.v. conductors has been completed for five miles. One mile of low tension line, four house services and one wool shed service have been erected. Weather permitting, the main line as far as Mr Herbert’s property should be ready to liven up about July 16. This completed 29 miles of 11.000 volt con struction in the Akitio County. There is still six and a quarter miles of main line to be constructed before the loop line will be completed. The main line has been surveyed to Messrs RobbieBros property, Waihoke Valley, and a start has been made on the survey of the Haunui extension.
