HOUSING WORKERS
GRIEVANCES IN AUCKLAND. DEPUTATION TO PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. July 22. Men affected in the reorganisation of the outside personnel of the State Housing Department appointed representatives at a meeting last night to proceed to Wellington to interview Mr Savage and other Ministers, hoping to receive an assurance that they will be provided with suitable employment. This statement was made by Mr F. G. Shepherd on behalf of the executive. He said that an incorrect statement had been published to the effect that “no man would be put off without being given an opportunity of transferring to other work.” That, he said, was a deliberate misstatement. Several men with dependants had been compelled to work under the Social Security Act. In most cases this had caused distress, because the man had to stand down for 10 days without sustenance.
