AIR BATTLE
IN OUTER MONGOLIA RUSSIANS REPORT SUCCESS. JAPANESE LAND ATTACKS ALSO REPELLED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) MOSCOW. July 23. A communique, issued by army headquarters in outer Mongolia, states that fourteen Japanese and three Mongol-Soviet planes were lost, in an air battle on Friday, in which 102 Japanese and 100 Mongol-Soviet planes participated. The battle was fought over Mongolian territory, which the Japanese had violated, and lasted for an hour, ending in the Japanese being pursued into their own territory. A land battle on July 12 resulted in Mongol-Soviet forces killing 100 Japanese and capturing a large quantity of war material. The Japanese renewed their attacks on July 21 and 22 and were again repulsed.
