Italian marines expelled the puppet police from the Settlement. EVENTS IN HANKOW AMERICAN NAVAL OFFICER DETAINED. FOR WALKING ON FORBIDDEN SIDE OF STREET. (Received This Day, at Noon.) HANKOW, July 23. A Japanese naval sentry attacked and temporarily detained R. A. Baker, paymaster of the United States gunboat Guam, for walking on the forbidden side of the street. A sentry previously insisted that foreigners should remove their hats.
