CHINESE DOLLAR
REPORTED WITHDRAWAL OF SUPPORT UNDER JAPANESE PRESSURE. GRAVE CONCERN IN LONDON. LONDON. July 23. Reports, which are believed to be correct, that Britain under pressure by Japan is withdrawing her support from the Chinese dollar are viewed with the gravest concern by influential City circles. as so long as the Chinese currency is stable Japan is unable to consolidate her victories. The “Financial News" cites the opinions of City men and members of the House of Commons experienced in Far Eastern trade that, unless a watertight Anglo-Japanese agreement is concluded, the entire Chinese trade is likelv to fall into Japan’s hands after the collapse of the Chinese currency. A sharp rise on the Japanese Bourse reveals that Tokio is in no doubt that Britain has capitulated, thus enabling a decisive drive to victory in China.
