HEAD-ON COLLISION

ACCIDENT ON WAINGAWA BRIDGE SiX PEOPLE INJURED. TWO ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL. A head-on collision between a motor van and a car on the Waingawa Bridge yesterday resulted in six people being injured, two. being taken to hospital, one with fairly serious head injuries. The victims were: — Admitted to hospital: Edgar Henderson. 23. single. Te Whiti, fairly serious head injuries. Kenneth Welch. Junr, single, of Makora Road, broken wrist. Injured but able to proceed to their homes: Henry Piper, of Bell Street, Featherston, injuries to head and hand; — Beckett. Lincoln Road, head injuries and shock; James Herbert Henderson and Edward Buick Henderson, of To Whiti. slight head injuries. The accident occurred at 1.20 p.m., the point of impact being, it is stated, within a few feet of the middle of the bridge. The motor van, driven by Mr Piper, was proceeding north and the car, driven by Mr E. B. Henderson, was proceeding south across the bridge. The van was owned by Mr Beckett, who was the only passenger in that vehicle, the other victims being occupants of the car, which was owned by Mr E. B. Henderson. Both vehicles were wrecked. Dr Graham Cowie and Dr N. H. Prior were summoned and attended to the injured and Messrs Edgar Henderson and K. Welch were removed to the hospital by ambulance.
