WOMEN’S DIVISION

SOCIAL CLUB ACTIVITIES.

("Times-Age” Special.)

There was a large attendance in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Hall, Carterton on Thursday, when a very enjoyable entertainment organised by the president of the Social Club, Mrs Keith Heid, was given, every item being enthusiastically received and deservedly encored. The programme was as follows: —Song, “Lazy Hallelujah,” those taking part were children of members of the club and comprised Don Rayner, June and Nancy Daysh, Bell Ordish, Gloria Kempton, Mona Humphries, Merrell Linton, Barbara Reid. A two-act play entitled “Maria Finds Out” was splendidly rendered by the following ladies and was greatly enjoyed: Mesdames Walsh, McLean, Daysh, Mellish, W. Abbott, J. R. Archer and Clough; recitation by Miss Nola Sewell; song. Miss Maggie Thompson; chorus by little girls, “Hush There Comes the Dream Man,” Nola Humphries, Dawn Rayner, Peggy Daysh, Olga Reidy, Nola and Elaine Mellish, Barbara and Kay Reid, June Daysh. A one-act play, “Impossible Perkins,” was very amusing. The characters were taken by Mrs Stretton, Mrs Harrington and Miss Carter; a tap dance by Pat Jensen was well received. The final item was a ladies’ chorus, “Take Me Back to Single.” A dainty supper provided by the Social Club was served and much appreciated by those present. The president of the Women’s Division, Mrs E. W. Allen, congratulated the Social Club upon the splendid programme provided and referred to the excellent services rendered by the president of the Social Club. She presented Mrs Reid with a beautiful posy of daphne and winter roses. A Heavy Frost. A very heavy frost was experienced in Carterton this morning, the countryside being covered in a white mantle. Footballers’ Dance. A reminder is given to the danceloving public of the dance to be held in the King’s Theatre, Carterton. tonight under the jurisdiction of the Carterton Football Club. During the evening the presentation of a cup will be made to the Wairarapa junior representative team that defeated Hawke's Bay last Saturday. Members of the Poverty Bay representative team will be guests of honour at the function. EUCHRE PARTY & DANCE ENJOYABLE GATHERING. There was a large attendance at the euchre party and dance held in the Clareville social hall last evening, an enjoyable time being spent by those present. The prizes for euchre were won as follows: Ladies, Mrs M. E. Mellish, 1; Miss M. Banks, 2. Men, Mr R. Banks, 1; Mr Edwards, 2. A monte carlo waltz was won by Mrs Mellish and Mr Clough. The M.’sC. were Messrs S. Fisher and E. James, and the music was provided by Mr J. Edwards. A tasty supper was served by the ladies committee. Borough Council Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will take place bn Tuesday next.
