GREYTOWN

RED CROSS SOCIETY HOME NURSING EXAMINATION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown branch of the New Zealand Red Cross Society held an examination in Home Nursing when Miss Higginson. Matron of the Greytown Hospital, was examiner for the oral portion, Mrs F. C. Bunny the written part and Sisters Hughes and Cheer supervised the practical work. Twenty-six candidates sal and all were successful. Miss Eetty Gregor was first with 97 per cent and Miss Elsie Gregor second with 96 per cent. At the close a presentation was .made to Mrs F. C. Bunny, who had been in charge of the training of the branch, with a “weekend” bag. HOCKEY COMPETITION TEAMS SELECTED. The Greytown Scouts to play College B at Masterton on Saturday will be;—Williams, Trotman, Anker, Brabender, Hay, Brabender, Rees, Anker. Jury, Hay, Hobson. The Greytown A to play Dalefield at Carterton at 1.30 p.m. will be:— Raison, Greathead. McKenzie (2), Keltic, Connolly, Hood, Harris, Dawber, Bouzaid, Morgan. MISS O. WOLTERS PRESENTATION FROM GUIDES. Yesterday afternoon the Greytown Girl Guide Company and the committee met at the residence of Mrs G. R. Jury to say farewell to Miss O. Wolters, who has resigned from the position of Divisional Commissioner. Visitors were present from Carterton as well as Mrs. D. Riddiford, the new Divisional Commissioner.

During the afternoon community singing was indulged in and Mrs A. Johnson gave a recitation which was much appreciated. A competition was won by Mrs J. F. Thompson. On behalf of the local Guide Company, Patrol-Leader Thompson presented Miss Wolters with a handsome leather weekend bag and 'expressed to Miss Wolters their appreciation of the great interest she had taken in the guide movement and in the Greytown Company in particular. In returning thanks Miss Wolters said that she would always watch with interest the Guide movement.

Mrs Riddiford expressed her pleasure at being able to be present. She spoke on the distress of the Jewish refugees from Europe and of the steps that were being taken to try and help these unfortunate people. The Guides rendered their farewell song and the singing of the National Anthem brought a pleasant afternoon to a close. Mrs Riddiford expressed the thanks of those present Go Mrs Jury for the use of her home. FOOTBALLER LEAVING POSITION TAKEN IN WELLINGTON The Greytown Football Club is losing the services of one ol its most promising players, Mi' T. Stigrue. who has taken a position in Wellington.
