RETURNED SOLDIERS MONTHLY MEETING OF BRANCH. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the'Carterton branch of the Returned Soldiers Association there were present: Messrs A. T. Murray (chairman), C. A. Chennells. S. James, L. T. Harding. H. Rathbone. C. Manley. F. Taplin, G. Rabbits and D. G. Johnston (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr C. C. Callender. The secretary reported on the recent ball, slating that the receipts totalled £54 14s 7d, while the expenditure was approximately £32 7s, leaving a profit of £2l 17s 7d. Accounts amounting to £32 7s were passed for payment. Votes of thanks were passed to all who had assisted at the ball, to Miss Rabbits for preparing the programme and to the M.C’s. It was decided on the motion of Mr Harding, seconded by Mr Taplin, that it be a recommendation to the Central Executive that the family of a member in po6r circumstances be assisted by providing them with blankets. . . The secretary’s action in giving a member an order to purchase a suit of cloths was approved. It was decided on the motion of Mr Murray, seconded by Mr Harding, that a donation of £1 Is be made to the Pipe Band. The holding of the ladies’ night was fixed for Monday, August 14. It was resolved that the, committee hold a special meeting on Thursday, July 27 to discuss the holding of a Diggers’ Market. The Tivoli Theatre management having kindly offered to put on another picture night for the branch, it was decided to suggest August 24 as a suitable date. HOCKEY TEAMS SELECTED FOR SATURDAY. The following is the Carterton junior team to play Wesley at Lansdowne at Ixlo p.m. tomorrow:—R. O’Keefe (captain), G. Maisey, P. Fisher, D. Deller, H. Butcher, O’Keefe (2). N. Archer, D. McPhee, R. Andrews, S. Ward. Carterton third division team to play Wesley at Lansdowne on Saturday at 1.30 p.m.: J. Upritchard, W. Morris, D. McKenzie (capt), D. Williams, B- Hopkins, V. Fitzgerald, B. Goodin, B. Manley, I. Butcher, B. McPhee, K. White. FOOTBALL CLUB DANCE ..POVERTY BAY TEAM AS GUESTS. The Carterton Football Club will hold a dance in the King’s Theatre on Saturday evening. The guests of honour will be the visiting Poverty Bay football team. The committee is sparing effort to make the function a most enjoyable one. Special attention is being given to the dancing floor, and the fact that Udy’s Dance Band has been engaged is a guarantee that the music will be of the best. During the night the chairman of the Wairarapa PiUgby Football Union will make a presentation to the captain of the junior representative team of a cup won by them in the match played at Napier last Saturday. Supper will be provided. P. & A. SOCIETY ANNUAL BALL. On Monday. August 7, the annual ball of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society will be held in the King’s Theatre. Carterton. A strong committee has been organised to carry out arrangements for this popular function. Those who attended the ball last year will remember what an enjoyable gathering it was and this year's ball promises to maintain that high standard. Udy’s orchestra will supply the music. BOBBY CALVES COLLECTION NEXT WEEK. Indications that the opening of the dairy factories in Wairarapa is not far distant is instanced by the fact that the collection of bobby calves will commence in all Wairarapa districts on Monday and Tuesday next, July 24 and 25. The price will be 7s per head and Messrs J. R. Donovan and Stewart Brothers are the collectors. Church Services. Church of England service will be held at Waihakeke on Sunday next at 2.30 p.m. The preacher will be the Rev W. F. Stent. Football Teams. The Carterton fourth grade team to play Martinborough at Carrington Park at 1.30 p.m. tomorrow will be picked from the following:—Sunkel, Waring. Ireland. Beere. Gain, Haste. Snell. McKenzie. McLean.
