LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

ADDRESS BY MISS BARNETT. There was a good attendance at the meeting of the Masterton League of Mothers held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. As the president (Mrs L. B. Maunsell) was absent, the chair was taken by Mrs J. H. Irving. Members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy’with the relatives of the late Mrs P. H. Shaw. The League Choir sang two songs, “Three Fishers” and “Blue Danube,” and Miss Barbara Fleury played two pianoforte solos. These items were much enjoyed and the performers were warmly thanked. The speaker of the day was Miss Barnett, Matron of the Masterton Hospital. Miss Barnett said she had taken for her subject the thing she was most familiar with and therefore would speak on some of the simple aspects of nursing. She dealt informatively with various minor bodily ailments and described methods of prevention and cure. After dealing very comprehensively with her subject Miss Barnett concluded by advising her hearers to drink plenty of water, eat good plain food and take lots of fresh air and exercise. Miss Barnett was listened to with great interest and on concluding was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The tea hostesses were Mesdames E. J. Brown, A. H. Falloon, P. Harrison. W. J. Hope and P. Smith.
