GOLF COMPETITIONS DRAW FOR SATURDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Members of the Carterton Ladies' Golf Club will play a fourball compe tition on the Taratahi links on Saturday. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE DALEFIELD MATARAWA. The monthly meeting of the Dale-field-Matarawa Women’s Institute was held recently in the Matarawa School room, Mrs Ross Gallon presiding over a large attendance. The meeting opened with the Ode of Friendship and the Asperation. One new member was initiated. Arrangements were made in connection with Husband’s Night to be held in the Dalefield Hall on Friday, July 28. During the afternoon members of the Carterton League of Mothers entertained with a number of songs which were much appreciated. Mrs Gibb Johnston, the organiser of the concert, and Mrs Irwin, pianiste, were at the conclusion of the entertainment, presented with shoulder sprays by Mrs Gallon, who expressed a wish that the visitors would come again and similarly entertain them. Mrs Johnston and Mrs H. Knutson replied on behalf of members of the League. An amusing competition, jumble words, was won by Mrs C. K. Goodin, Carterton. The results of the monthly competitions were as follow: Flowers, best bloom, Mrs G. Sadler 1, Mrs S. McCarty 2, Mrs O'Keefe 3. Date and nut loaf, Mrs M. Parker 1, Mrs S. McCarty 2, Mrs Hicks 3. Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames M. Parker. S. McCarty, O’Keefe and lan McLaren.
MINIATURE RIFLES WAIRARAPA CHAMPIONSHIP. The secretary of the Wairarapa Association states that entries for the an nual championship fixture being held at Greytown on Saturday promises to be the best ever received for the meeting. One hundred and eighteen entries have so far been received from shooters from Ballance, Makomako, Mangatainoka, Mangamutu, all Wairarapa clubs, and from many clubs in the Lower Hutt and Wellington. The entry of lady shooters is the best received for years. Card Tournament. The weekly card tournament held under the jurisdiction of the Boy Scout movement was held in St Mary’s Hall last evening when there was a good attendance. The prizes were won by Mrs Patterson and Mrs Challis equal 1. F. Daysh 1 and S. Tawhai 2. Supper was served. Football. The Poverty Bay representative football team arrived in Carterton yester day afternoon and is staying at the Marciuis of Normanby Hotel. The team had a practice on the showgrounds this morning. The match on Saturday is being looked forward to with interest.
