Largs rocks, weighing between two and four tons, are being used in the construction of the new alpine garden in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. This was reported to the Domains Board by the curator (Mr J. A. McPherson), who said that the rocks had been obtained through the co-opera-tion of two landowners at Halsweel. Work on the new garden was proceeding satisfactorily, and if the weather remained favourable, most of it would be ready for planting in August. Mr McPherson also reported that because of their height and wide spread over the roadway, the work of pruning dangerous and over-heavy limbs from trees in Rolleston avenue would probably take some time. “The pruning." he said, “will in no way interfere with the character of the avenue.”
