WEDDING AT TAKAPAU A LOCAL BRIDEGROOM. ("Times-Age” Special.) A wedding of considerable interest to Featherston residents look place in the Presbyterian Church, Takapau, on Saturday, July 15. when Helen Nancy, second daughter of Mr Norman Waldin and the late Mrs Waldin, "Longview,” Takapau, was married to Bruce Buchanan Donald, son of the late Mr and Mrs Allen Donald, Featherston. The church was beautifully decorated with white heather and red berries and a wedding bell of white heather. The Rev 11. S. Scott was the officiating minister.
The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a dress of cream lace over taffeta, cut on classical lines, and forming a long train with long, tight fitting sleeves coming to a point on the hand, her beautiful embroidered Brussells net veil forming a second train. She wore a coronet of orange blossoms and carried a sheaf of callas lilies.
Mrs H. S. Budd, sister of the bride, was Matron of Honour, and Miss Flora Donald was bridesmaid. They wore parchment lace over taffeta with rucked bodices and long, tight fitting sleeves coming to a point over the hand, full flared skirts with Macdonald tartan bows, the ends falling to the hem of the skirt. They wore red flower head bands, and carried sheafs of red carnations and amyrillaslilies. Two flower girls, Shirley and Bridget Waldin, small sisters of the bride, were dressed in parchment net frocks, red sashes and red velvet bolero coats, and they carried posies of red flowers.
Mr Keith Donald, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man, and Mr J. M. C. Fletcher, of Auckland, was groomsman. The ushers were Mr Roy Donald and Mr Warren Waldin.
A reception was held in the Takapau Hall, where Mr and Mrs Waldin, assisted by Miss Donald, aunt of the bridegroom, and Mr R. A. Donald, brother, received the guests. Mrs Waldin was dressed in black georgette with gold sequins trimmings, black hat. fur coat, and carried a posy of daphne and pink heather. Miss Donald wore a dress of deep clover, with hat to tone, grey squirrel coat and carried a posy of cyclamen and heather. Master Johnston, of Waipukurau, in full Highland dress; piped the bridal party from the church to the hall playing "The Road to the Isles.” There was a large number of guests from all parts of New Zealand.
When the bride and bridegroom left by car for the North the bride was wearing a three-piece storm blue angora suit, rust hat and accessories. Their future home will be “Rowalien,” Featherston. The bridegroom’s presents to the bridesmaids were gold necklaces, and to the (lower girls gold brooches.
Mr H. Rolls has received from the publishers, a book called “Royal Record.” containing a record of all trees planted throughout the British Empire, in commemoration of the Coronation, and in which reference is made to the flowering cherries presented by Mrs D. H. S. Riddiford and planted by the Featherston Girl Guides, in Clifford Square, and also the trees planted by the residents of Hayward Street.
exhibition badminton
MATCH POSTPONED. Owing to unforeseen circumstances the exhibition badminton match te have been played by the Now Zealand champion. P. Hawksworth. the North Island champion J. J. Payton. Miss Kerr, of Dunedin (ex New Zealand champion), and Mrs P. Hawksworth (combined and ladies’ doubles New Zealand title holder) in the Town Hall tonight has been postponed until the Australian tour is finished. This will bring the date to about six weeks hence. Persona I. Miss Lorna Crosbie, a member of the Featherston Hockey team, has been selected as emergency for the Wairarapa Junior Ladies’ Hockey Representative team.
