BOY SCOUTS ANNUAL MEETING. (‘‘Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Carterton Troop of the Bay Scouts was held in the Scout Den last evening, Mr C. W. Gaze presiding over a representative attendance of parents (ladies and men). The chairman welcomed those present, for having ventured out on such a cold night, especially the ladies. He was pleased to see that interest was still manifest in the Scout and Cub movements.

Reports were read by Miss Edge. Cub Mistress, showing that the activities of the Cubs was very keen. Miss Edge was heartily thanked for her untiring interest in the corps and for the way she had kepj. the members together. Scout Master R. O'Keefe reported that the Scout movement locally was flourishing, that everything was working very satisfactorily and that all the boys were obedient to the Scout laws. During the summer, he said, a very successful camp was held on Mr Walsh's property on the banks of the Waiohine Stream and the Scouts were indebted to Mr Walsh for allowing them the use of his grounds. Boys were being trained to take part in the great Jamboree to be held in connection with the Centenary celebrations. The treasurer. Mr C. E. White, reported that the financial part of the Scout movement was in a very sound condition. All the reports were adopted.

The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year: Patron, Mr D. L. Taverner: president. Mr W. Morris; secretary. Mr Neville Walsh; treasurer, Mr C. E. White; committee, Mesdames C. E. White, Walsh. Patterson. Pinfold. Vennell, O'Keefe, Robinson, Lemban. Messrs C. E. White, N. Walsh, W. Vaughan C. W. Gaze, W. Morris, G. Morris. A. Patterson. F. O’Keefe, R. P. Wakelin and J. Finn.

Hearty votes of thanks were accord ed to the retiring members of commit tee, Miss Edge, Mr R. O'Keefe and all officials who had worked so hard for the well being of the troop. It was resolved that the committee meet on the second Tuesday in each month.

It was resolved to hold the first birthday of the Scouts and Cubs in the King's Theatre on Tuesday. August 29, that the boys be entertained at tea between 6 and 7 o'clock and that at 8 o'clock a Scout Concert be held, admission to which was fixed at Is with children half price. The proceeds are to go towards the Jamboree expense. The Scouts are to sell the tickets when they are printed. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Udy, of Waihakeke for her generous offer to provide the birthday cake for the Scouts' first birthday. The Scouts will be trained for their concert by Mrs V. L. Robinson and Scout Master O'Keefe. ORDER OF DRUIDS MEETING OF TOTARA LODGE. The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge of Druids was held last evening. Arch Druid Bro H. Torrey presiding. One member declared on the funds of the Lodge and two declared off. The Friendly Societies’ Hospital Association wrote relative to an agreement with the Hospital Board regarding the treatment of outpatients as the result of the operation of the Social Security Act. The Dominion Friendly Societies forwarded a report of the annual meeting. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £lO5 7s lid. including £9O 16s 3d quar ter fees to the Grand Lodge, were passed for payment. The returns for the quarter ended May, showed that 249 financial benefit members were on the Lodge books. The secretary was granted leave of absence from next meeting as he will be in Invercargill. He will leave Car- - terton on July 1. I MINIATURE RIFLES CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. Entries are coming in very freely for the annual championship meeting of the Wairarapa Miniature Rifle Association which will be hold on the Grey town range on Saturday next, commencing at 1.30 p.m. sharp. At the time of writing the secretary has received 75 entries. Many more entries are expected. GOLF COMPETITION LADIES' TROPHY RESULTS. Playing on the Taratahi links for Mr C. K. Goodin's trophy and the bogey match the best score cards handed in were: —Mrs M. Campbell, score 100. handicap 31. total 69; Miss M: j Smart 99-28-71: Miss Knutson 98 26 72; Mrs Harrington 99-26 73; Mrs Orr 9017 73: Mrs C. C. Callender 91-16-75; Mrs Murray 100 26 75; Miss N. ANNUAL MEETING

At the annual meeting of the Car terton P.W.M.U. held in St Andrew's Sunday school hall the Rev D. McNeur of Lansdowne, presided and there was a good attendance.

The treasurer's report showed a credit balance of £‘J6 which was allo-

cated to the various mission schemes of the church.

Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Mrs E. Peters; vice-presidents, Miss Moncrielf, Mrs R. Every and Mrs R. Madden; secretary, Mrs J. Fisher; treasurer, Mrs G. Brown; H.F. secretary, Mrs McPherson; M.M.8.L., Mrs J. Harris; cor respondence secretary. Miss Harvey; tea secretary, Mrs J. Leitch; Oriental secretary, Mrs R. Tankersley; stamps secretary, Miss J. Moncrieff; arrowroot secretary. Mrs W. Balfour; pianist, Mrs G. Brown.

Mr McNeur gave a very interesting address, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

Afternoon tea was partaken of. and so closed the twenty seventh year of work. The officers look forward to another year of work and hope it will be even more successful than the one just closed.

RETURNED SOLDIERS I ENJOYABLE SOCIAL GATHERING. Members of the Carterton branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association held a social in the Masonic Hall last evening when a very pleasant time was spent in playing cards and relating old war stories. Mr A. Whyborn. president of the Wairarapa Association, was present and gave a very interesting account of the business done at the recent Dominion Conference held in Wellington. Supper was served and greatly appreciated. FARMERS’ UNION SOCIAL AT PARKVALE. Considering the cold night there was a very good attendance at the card party and dance held in the Parkvale Hall last evening, under the auspices of the Carterton brunch of the Farmers' Union. A very pleasant time was spent by all. The card competitions resulted as follow:—Ladies: Mrs Keith Reid. 1; Mrs Leslie Rayner. 2. Men: Messrs E. R. Rose. 1; R. Williams, 2. Dancing was enjoyed to excellent music provided by Mrs V. J. Ashton and Mr Gordon Udy. A Monte Carlo competition was won by Mr and Mrs Randall Williams, a cake competition by Mr Les. Gallon, and the guessing of number of beans in bottle was won by Mr J. Herrick, who guessed the correct number, .553.
