PLAY IN WAIRARAPA REPRESENTATIVE GAME. WIN FOR LOCAL LADIES. The first ladies' representative match of the season was played at Masterton on Saturday afternoon when Wairarapa defeated Akitio by 4 goals to 1. Akitio tried out several young players and were not at full strength. Wairarapa was definitely superior in all departments of the game, and their score should have been much higher. The most outstanding players in the Wairarapa team were Misses Cadwallader, Page and Madsen of the forwards. Miss Matthews at right wing was.playing her first representative game, and though she probably found the pace too hot at times, can be expected to improve on Saturday’s game. The half line was excellent, both E. Barnes and R. Harding played a very steady game while Miss Aikman fully justified her inclusion in the team. The full-backs were very seldom bullied

and were not seriously tried out, while

the goalkeeper did not get many chances to show up. However, what she did she did well. The teams lined out as follows: — Akitio: Misses R. Meech, I. McLaren, E. Wallis, G. Harman, J. Veale, I. Barker, M. Herbert, G. Yoeman, E. Hoynihan, P. Moynihan, J. Kent. Wairarapa: Miss B. Welsh, Mrs Brooks, Misses S. Keltic, E. Barnes (captain), R. Harding, D. Matthews, E. Madsen, N. Page. M. Henderson, J. Aikman, L. Cadwallader. The referees were: Mrs Rankin (Akitio) and Mr R. S. Moor (Wairarapa).

’ Wairarapa were the first to get go- , ing and immediately carried play to [ Akitio territory but off-side robbed . them of a good chance to score. Akitio i cleared and J. Kent started a good rush , down the wing. A penalty corner was the result, but Wairarapa came away. . Soon after Miss Welsh cleared with a i good kick. Wairarapa were showing , plenty of pace in the- forward line, but ’ were slow to got their shot at goal and missed many good opportunities. Miss ' Aikman was putting in some good . work and gave her forwards plenty of chances. Miss Madsen cut through, nicely but missed the shot. Miss Cadwallader shot soon after but the goalie saved. Miss I. McLaren was doing some great defensive work for Akitio. Misses. Madsen and Cadwallader just missed with hard, shots. The first goal came from a nice rush by Misses Madsen, Page and Cadwallader, the lastnamed beating the goalkeeper with a hard shot. The spell ended soon after and Wairarapa led by 1 goal to nil. Akitio took up the running on changing over but lacked the combination

j necessary to finish off. Play was even for a time till Miss Cadwallader raced 5 away on her own, but gave “sticks" ’ in shooting for the net. Miss Matthews I soon after sent in a good centre, the f ball going through to Miss Madsen who ’ made no mistake with the shot. Akitio ‘ attacked from the left wing and were rewarded when from a melee in the ' circle Miss Moynhan goaled. Wairarapa were? soon, back again, Miss Cadwallader passed, the ball right in front of the net and Miss Madsen easily goaled. Miss Madsen scored again, soon after, she slipped the ball past the defence with a pretty flick shot, and sent in a hot shot from the right, making ■ the score 4 —l. Though Akitio tried i hard to reduce Wairarapa’s lead the , final whistle sounded with the score ; unaltered and the game ended Waira- -j rapa 4, Akitio 1. ( After the game both teams were en- ( tertained at afternoon tea by the Wai- j rarapa Hockey Association. The gath- j ering being presided over by Mr J. Robertson, M.P. t f JUNIOR WOMEN. ! 1 All junior women's championship A games were cancelled on Saturday j when a trial game was played on the j Lansdowne grounds.
