GUARANTEED PRICES
PLEBISCITE SUGGESTED
TO ASCERTAIN OPINIONS OF DAIRY FARMERS. PRIME MINISTER PROMISES CONSIDERATION. (By Telegraph—press Association.) WELLNGTON, This Day. An intimation that the Government would consider holding a plebiscite among dairy farmers to judge whether they were dissatisfied with the guaranteed price-was given by the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) when the House of Representatives met at 10.30 today. The subject was introduced by Mr Barrell, wno asked whether, in view of statements at Farmers’ Union meetings and in the House that • dairy farmers were dissatisfied with the guaranteed price, the Government would consider holding a plebiscite among dairy farmers themselves to ascertain their views on the subject. Mr Savage, replying, said it would be quite impossible for any Government to disregard statements made inside and outside the House claiming that farming districts had voted against guaranteed prices by sending opponents of the system to Parliament. If the dairy farmers thought they could do better under the old system’ of rising and falling prices it would be the duty of the Government todevise ways and means of meeting them. The matter would be fully considered by the Government at an early date.
