EXCELLENT CONCERT

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE FUNDS.

PRESENTATION IN OPERA HOUSE.

The concert presented in the Opera House last night under the direction of Mrs Edna Paterson in aid of the funds of the St. John Ambulance deserved a much larger attendance of the public than was the case, though the weather conditions were unfavourable and no doubt affected the attendance to some extent. The entertainment was an excellent one in every respect and was greatly enjoyed by those present. Mr McQuade, superintendent of the Cadet Division, thanked the performers for their assistance, especially Mrs Paterson and also the public for its support. The programme was as follows: — Around the Campfire, Cadets; recitation, Pat McQuade; character song, Betty Barnes; recitation, Shirley Mackley; toe dance, Beulah Hirst; humorous sketch, Joan Grantham; vocal solo, Mr C. Clement; duo, Valma Hirst and Shirley Mackley; physical drill, Wairarapa College girls; sketch, Cadets; piano-accordion solo, Miss Jean Mackay; musical monologue, Josephine Hanley; songs, Beulah Hirst; first-aid display, Cadets; gymnastics, Mr Avon Tatton and his Y.M.C.A. team; musical monologue, Valma Hirst; vocal solo, Miss Leah Johnson; recitation, Betty Barnes; playette, “The End of the Story,” Cadets, Aunt Judy, Miss Kitty Cairns; Mr Martin, Gordon Dean; his sons, Roger and Peter, Ron Slater and Ralph Rippon; their schoolmates, Alan, George and Jimmy, Bill Ryan, Ray McGovern and Leo Coley; piano-accor-dion solo, Miss Jean Mackay; song and tap dance, Beulah Hirst; humorous recitation, Maureen Cairns; vocal solo, Mr C. Clement; character sketch, Miss K. Cairns; finale, Cadets; “God Save the King.” The accompanists were: Miss N. Mulvey, Miss Jean Mackay and Mrs E. Paterson.
