MAUNGANUI DIVERTED FROM TAHITI

ON ACCOUNT OF OUTBREAK OF SMALLPOX. VISITING SAMOA AND OTHER GROUPS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) APIA. July 11.

The Maunganui, on a winter islands cruise, will arrive this afternoon from Tonga and ports. Owing to an outbreak of smallpox at Papeete, the steamer was diverted from its original route and is now calling at Tonga and Samoa, including Pago Pago, Fiji and New Caledonia and return to Auckland.

The Maunganui will remain in Apia until one a.m. on Friday. Although she is arriving eight days ahead of schedule the original programme of entertainment for the tourists will be carried out. This includes sightseeing tours, an island nights entertainment. a flower show, native dances by hospital Samoan nurses and a Catholic Cluo entertainment.
