COURSING

WAIRARAPA CLUB’S MEETING. At the Akura Plumpton on Saturday the contest for Mr J. Watson’s rose bowl should provide one of the most exciting events of the season. Coursing of a high standard will be witnessed as the hares are in splendid condition and can be relied upon to run strongly. Systematic schooling has been carried out since the last meeting and it is anticipated that the hares will reach the escapes in the majority of the courses. Of the visiting dogs those of Messrs McGrath and Cooke, of Wellington, should provide good opposition with Cardsharper and Sultan. The former proved himself on the track at Solway when he won the open race against Wairarapa’s best greyhounds. Sultan is a dog that is expected to perform better on a plumpton. He appeared to have speed at Solway if he would only extend himself.

Wanganui will be represented by Mr F. Riding's two good dogs, Mungi Taipo and Mosquite Kid. The latter dog may lack the experience of his kennel mate, but both have every chance of going through to the final. Wanganui has another competitor in Mrs R. Higgs’s Golikel. He has a good record on the speed tracks and if he is in good condition may run well. Mr W. Ramsey’s nomination, Old Faithful, from the same town, is sure to live up to his name.
