PLAYERS TO TRAIN REPRESENTATIVE FOOTBALL. ("Times-Age” Special.) The following players are requested to meet at 6.30 o'clock tonight at the Pahiatua Drill Hall for practice. From them the team to meet Dannevirke on Saturday next will be chosen: —Backs: Hayes. Johnston, Twentyman, Stevenson, Staples, Lett, Hunt, Harris, Elliott, Wolland and Murch. Forwards: Bailey, Newlands, Fallaver, Welsh, Rosyth, Brown, Upston, Smith, Fergus, Fafeita, Connel and Wilkin.

In the final of the third grade seven-a-side football tournament on Saturday, Mangatainoka defeated Eketahuna by 6 points to 3. The following were the teams: —Mangatainoka: Bickwell. At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council the Clerk reported as follows:— The statement of Cash Balances at date is as follows: —County Fund Ac., dr. £BO9 14s 3d: Bridges Loan, £BOOO Ac., cr. £5,277 13s 9d; Bridge Fund Ac., cr. £233 3s 7d; Worker's Dwelling Loan Ac., cr. £52 Is 6d.

At the end of June last year the County Fund Account was overdrawn to lhe extent of £1975. The first payment of subsidy has been paid over, but the outstanding subsidy amounts to approximately £2,500 to date. An endeavour will be made to have these amounts paid over during the present month. An application is now being prepared for the payment of subsidy on General Rates, payable on the amount of 1938-39 rates collected up to June 30, 1939.

The receipts for last month totalled £879 15s 3d. the main items of collection being:—Rates: West Riding, £43 5s 2d; Alfredton Riding. £ll9 2s 9d; 10 per cent penally, £8 14s 7d; Heavy Traffic Fees, £234 6s 6d; Main Highways Subsidy. £162 16s Id; Payment for work done, etc.. £196 5s Id; rents £34 7s 8d; licenses, £44 17s 6d; sundry. £35 19s lid.
