GREYTOWN

BRIGADE MEETING REQUEST THAT FIREPLUGS BE PAINTED. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade was held last night. Superintendent J. Wood presided over a full attendance of members. The invitation to the Martinborough reunion was accepted and one carload was given leave to attend. The secretary was instructed to draw the attention of the Borough Council to the fact that the fire plug opposite the railway entrance was now covered up by the new road formation. It was also decided to ask that the fire plugs in Main Street be repainted. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £8 3s 7d. WATER PRESSURE TOO LOW FOR FIRE-FIGHTING. Messrs J. Wood and H. G. Carter, representing the Fire Brigade, waited on the Works Committee of the Borough Council last evening to discuss the water pressure. The deputation pointed out that for about five weeks the pressure had at times fallen to 351bs. This was not sufficient for efficient fire-fighting purposes. The remedy for this was fully discussed and the chairman of the committee, Mr H. J. Farley, promised that the matter would be investigated. Personal Items. Mr Owen Greathead, of Feilding, is at present on a visit to Greytown. Mr and Mrs L. Strange have returned to Greytown after three weeks’ holiday spent at Collingwood.
