WORD OF WARNING
TO AUSTRALIAN WORKERS.
NO OPENING IN NEW ZEALAND FOR UNSKILLED MEN.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day
“My attention has been drawn to the large number of unskilled and semiskilled workmen proceeding to this Dominion from Australia on the chance of securing employment on arrival, the Minister of Labour (Mr . Webb) stated today. “I fell that a public word of warning would not be - out of place. While it is true that there is a definite shortage of certain classes of skilled tradesmen, there is no apparent shortage of unskilled workers in New Zea land, particularly at the present time, when the position is accentuated by the availability of workers employed in seasonal occupations during the summer months. Unskilled or semi-skilled Australians should make very careful inquiries with the New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Australia before making the journey."
