CHESS
GOOD MUSTER AT LAST NIGHT’S
PRACTICE.
MASTERTON CLUB ACTIVITIES. The Master ton Chess Club held its opening night of the season in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms last evening, there being a good muster of members. Four lady members and four Wairarapa College students were amongst those present. Play last evening consisted of practice games, special attention being given to tuition and assisting weaker players. Ladder games will be commenced next Monday evening. All intending players are requested to make a point of being present at the next meeting to assist in the formation of the schedule.
At last evening’s meeting sympathetic reference was made to the sudden death last week of Capt Barcham, of Greytown, who for many years was a most enthusiastic member of the South Wairarapa Club. Captain Barcham was a man of sterling qualities, a generous winner, and a graceful loser. His kindly presence will be sadly missed by his many chess friends.
