NOTABLE SAMOAN
DEATH OF HON MALIETOA TANUMAFILI. KING FOR BRIEF PERIOD. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. APIA, July 9. The Hon Malictoa Tanumafili died suddenly today at his home in Faatora, near Apia. He was 59 years of age. In 1898 he was declared King ol Samoa, but resigned in the following year, preceding the inauguration of the German Government in 1900. He was appointed Fautua, or adviser to the Administrator, in 1913, and beld that position till his death. In 1929 he was appointed a member of the Samoan Legislative Council but resigned in 1937. He received the 0.8. E. in 1931. The interment will take place in Mulinuu, the resting place of the highest chiefs of Samoa.
