CHURCH SERVICES
Tomorrow is being observed by the Church of England as a day of special prayer for sufferers in the Far East. The vicar (the Rev. E. J. Rich) will speak at St. Matthew’s Church, both in the morning and evening, on the special subject of the day of prayer. Similar services will be conducted by the Rev. T. V. Pearson at Kuripuni, and by Mr V. W. Joblirr at Upper Plain. The services at Knox Church tomorrow will be conducted by the Rev. J. Davie, who will also be the preacher at Kaituna at 2 p.m. The services tomorrow at the Salvation Army will be conducted byMajor Mahaffie in the morning and Lieutenant Tooley in the evening. Brother Adderson will be the speaker at the morning service, and Lieutenant Tooley at the evening service. A great “spiritual seige” will be conducted next weekend by Brigadier Sydney Smith' and the staff of the Army’s Training College, Wellington, assisted by 34 Cadets. The Rev D C. McKee, who will take the morning service of the Baptist Fellowship at the Y.M.C.A. Hall tomorrow, is one of the young ministers trained at the Baptist College, Auckland, under the able tutorship of Dr J. J. North. Those who are closely associated with the college state that the institution is fortunate in having as its principal a man of such fine and fearless character as Dr North. His alertness, straight thinking and fearless utterances of the truths of the Christian faith have left their impression on the ministers trained at the college and in fact on the whole of the Baptist movement in New Zealand. The Rev D. C. is at present in charge of the Baptist Church at Petone. A visiting speaker will give the address at the evening service at Ruhamah Gospel Hall. He is Mr H. Guilliard, a well known and capable speaker, whose subject will be of interest to everyone. The service commences at 7 p.m. and a cordial invitation ■ is extended to all. "What is Heaven Like or What is on the Other Side of the Hill?” will be the subject of the sermon at the Methodist Church tomorrow morning. At night the subject will be “Is Jesus Christ an Experiment or an Experience?” The preacher on both occasions will be the' Rev Frederick J. Parker. At the Kuripuni Methodist Church tomorrow the Young Men’s Mission Band will have charge of the service in the morning, while at 6.50 p.m. cars will leave the church to convey worshippers to the town church service. The Methodist Church service at Rangitumau tomorrow at 2 p.m. will be conducted by the Rev Fred. J. Parker.
