STOCK MARKET

FEILDING SALE. A GOOD TONE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, July 7. Notwithstanding the bitterly cold weather, there was a good attendance at today’s live stock sale in Feilding, the entry of all classes of stock being on the increase. The tone of the sale was good, prices, generally, being well maintained for fat sheep. There was a good market for mutton, with special lines of prime Southdown ewes selling freely. Wethers were the weakness of the sale, though lambs were on a par with schedule rates. Extra prime ewes made 18s to 19s Id; prime, 15s 8d to 17s 9d; lighter, 12s 6d to 15s 3d; plain, 9s to 9s 7d; second wethers, 20s to 225; second grade, 17s to 19s 6d; unfinished, 14s 7d to 16s 6d; b.f. two-tooths, best, 18s to 19s fid; light, 14s 6d to 16s lOd; prime lambs, 17s to 18s 2d; medium, 16s; light, 13s 2d to 14s 2d. Every sign was shown that the store sheep market was continuing to firm; prices for lambs and breeding ewes, where quality was evident, being better. Good ewe lambs made 18s 6d to 18s 9d; second quality, 16s to 16s lOd; small, 14s; very good wether lambs, 12s lOd to 13s 6d; average sorts, 8s to 12s 6d; smaller, 6s to 8s; good black faced, 14s; well-grown two-tooth ewes, 25s 9d; smaller two and four-tooth, 20s; very good, six-tooth to four-year, l 22s to 22s 3d; m.a, large line, 17s 3d; very good five and six-year, 18s; extra good five-year, 20s; others, 10s 6d to 16s; backward six-year, 8s; cull ewes, 4s 6d; forward-conditioned two-tooth wethers, 14s Id to 15s. In the store cattle pens there was a very good representation of run stock, though some of the young animals were on the’ poor side. There was a fair proportion of quality lines available. The sale was good considering the state of the store cattle market of late. Forward-conditioned steers showed a rise in value and run cows in average condition were also firmer.

In the pig section, weaners made 13s 6d to 15s 6d; slips, 15s to 18s 6d; stores, 20s; porkers, 335. CARTERTON SALE. - 0 Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. report as follow: —Owing to the extremely boisterous conditions ruling today practically no stock came forward. No sheep were yarded and only a small number of pigs and cattle. Pigs: Weaner pigs, 18s, 15s to 9s; light porkers, 34s to 30s; store pigs, 255. Cattle: 2-year Jersey heifers, £2;
