CRUSHED BY LOG

FATAL INJURIES SUFFERED BY FARM HAND. ACCIDENT AT WAIKUKU. (“Times-Age” Special.) Crushed by a log that rolled over and pinned him against a bank, a young man named Ernest Bargery, 19 years of age, employed as a farm hand on the property of Mr J. McDonald, Waikuku, Martinborough, died later in the Greytown Hospital. Mr Bargery’s parents reside at 8 Adelaide Road, Wellington. The accident occurred at about noon on Wednesday, when Mr Bargery was engaged with a son of Mr McDonald in cutting firewood on the farm. By some means a log rolled and pinned Mr Bargery against a bank, though at first it was not thought that he was seriously injured and Dr Coutts, of Martinborough, was not called until about 6 p.m. Dr Coutts ordered his removal to the Grey town Hospital, where he was admitted later in the evening. It is understood that an operation was performed the following day and Mr Bargery died at about 2 a.m. yesterday. An inquest will be held.
