AFTER THREE MONTHS
NON=AGGRESSION PACT DISCUSSIONS STILL AT INDETERMINATE STAGE. MR CHAMBERLAIN REFUSES TO GIVE DETAILS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.22 a.m.) RUGBY, July 5. The Prime Minister (Mr X. Chamberlain) stated in the House of Commons that the Soviet reply regarding a nonaggression pact had been received yesterday and was being considered in consultation with France. In official circles it is not. expected that fresh instructions to Sir W. Seeds (British Ambassador) and M Naggiar (French Ambassador) will be despatched before tomorrow evening at the earliest. It is assumed that Cabinet, which met twice today, was concerned among other matters with the Moscow negotiations. Mr Chamberlain’s statement in the House of Commons gave rise to the following exchange of questions and answers: — Dr Hugh Dalton (Lab): “Is it true, as stated in the Press today, that one of the outstanding difficulties relates to new proposals put forward by the Government for a further extension of the list of States to be guaranteed?” Mr Chamberlain: “I do not think it desirable to enter into details of what differences are yet unsolved. It would be a mistake to suppose that difficulties arise from one side only.” Dr Dalton: “These negotiations have now been dragging on for three months. Does the Premier realise that he has been treated with great forbearance in the House and country?” Mr R. A. Pilkington (Oon): “Is Mr Chamberlain aware that there is a doubt beginning to grow in this country whether the Soviet wants this treaty?” Mr S. V. T. A_dams (Con) asked if the Government had considered sending a Cabinet Minister to Moscow. No further answer was given by Mr Chamberlain.
