WAR CHANCES
WHERE GERMANY STANDS ACCORDING TO HUNGARIAN PROFESSOR. WEAKER THAN IN 1914. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) BUDAPEST, July 5. The publication of a booklet ‘'German's War Chances in Light of German Literature" has created a sentation. The booklet is based exclusively on the opinions of German experts, compiled by Ivan Lajcs, a professor at the University of Pecs. "I want to destroy the belief in Germany’s invincibility which has been cleverly propagated abroad and has been the main cause of her easy successes,” he writes. His conclusion is that Germany's military and economic situation is worse now than in 1914. The number of German troops is lessening because of the ever-increasing numbers needed for war industries. Above all, there is danger from “the internal enemy” of mass reaction against the deprivations inevitable in war. “German stands no chance of winning a war, neither a lightning war nor a prolonged war," Professor Lajos states. “Her army is not early enough trained, and her railways are in an appalling situation.”
