The severe storm still raging in the Tasman Sea is described by the State Meteorologist as one of the most severe and extensive for many years. Wireless reports from vessels in the Tasman told of mountainous seas and winds of more than gale force. The Awatea, originally due at eight o'clock this morning, is now not expected until four this afternoon. Speaking on the radiophone. Captain Davey said: "'lt is the worst crossing from Auckland to Sydney I have ever made and the longest the Awatea has made. The seas were terrific, spray breaking over the bridge, but we came through without a piece of broken glass. For her passengers' comfort, the Awatea was slowed to 16.', knots.”
