TERRITORIAL ARMY
MASTERTON ASSOCIATION. ORGANISATION TO BE FORMED. According to information received by the “Times-Age” from Army Head' quarters, an effort will shortly be made to form a Masterton Territorial Association. Captain B. Barrington, of the Wellington-West Coast Regiment, who has recently been appointed Recruiting Officer for this district, will be visiting Masterton to make arrangements for forming the organisation. Local Territorial or regimental associations have been formed for some time in the larger centres and consist of public-spirited citizens who are prepared to help local Territorial units. Their aim is to encourage citizens to take an interest in and foster respect for members of their local units and the Territorial Army generally. Recruiting committees set up by the association try to maintain units at full strength and practical help is always given to the social and recreational activities of the troops. Wherever possible employers are encouraged by the association to give leave to employees to attend camps and special training courses and personal contact with the local units is maintained by association representatives attending certain parades and camps wherever possible. The work of these associations has proved of great value to the units in those centres where they have been formed and Army Headquarters are optimistic in regard to establishing a live, organisation in Masterton.
