ORDER OF DRUIDS
MEETING OF TOTARA LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge- of Druids was held last evening and was presided over by the Arch Druid, Bro. H. Torrey. One member was declared on and another off the sick fund of the lodge. A refund of £24 was received from the headquarters for maternity claims paid out. Accounts, including doctors and sick pay, amounting to £9O 13s 6d. were passed for payment. SHOOTING SEASON CONDITIONS NOT FAVOURABLE. Friday last was the last day of the game bird shooting this season. Taking the season all round the weather was too mild for good bags to be received. Local shooters during the last ■week were more fortunate in so far as swans were concerned and maximum bags were secured by many. Only a few ducks were obtained. In the early part of the season the lake was low and the birds flew well out of reach. Latterly the waters of the lake rose and the birds made their way to the smaller lagoons. One party of five guns report having secured 72 swans and 14 ducks during the last week. LADIES’ GOLF TROPHY COMPETITION. The Carterton ladies played a flag competition and ■ Mrs Orr’s trophy. The following were the best cards handed in:—Miss P. Renall, score 97, handicap 31. total 66; Mrs C. C. Callender, 85. 17. 67: Miss Welch, 76, 19, 67; Miss M. Campbell, 90, 21, 69; Mrs W. Renall, 99. 27, 72; Miss Lamb, 100, 28. 72; Mrs Ross, 98, 24,7 4; Mrs Goodin, 109, 34, 75; Mrs Orr, 93. 17, 76; Miss M. Smart, 107, 28, 79: Miss Armstrong, 107. 28. 79: • Miss P. Renalt won the flag competition. i POULTRY SHOW SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITOR. Mr J. Laurenson is to be congratulated for his success at the 37th Show of the Hastings Poultry Association, held in Hastings. He sent 6 birds for competition. He won outright the Game Club’s Cup for the best Old English Game bird under 12 months, and the Bright Red Cup for Game cockerel or pullet. The same exhibitor has secured a leg-in for the Campbell Cup, for the best female bird in the show and a leg-in for the Thornton Cup for the best game bird in show. Two test specials were also won with one bird. Two first, 2 second, and 2 third awards were also gained by Mr Laurenson’s birds. FOOTBALL JUBILEE CARTERTON CLUB. A great deal of enthusiasm is being shown by members of the Carterton Football Club regarding their jubilee which will commence on Saturday next. In yesterday’s comment the name of Keith Reid was omitted. This player gained his All Black jersey. The Wellington provincial district issue of the Cyclopedia of New Zealand (1896) states: —‘‘The Carterton Football Club, which plays on the Borough Reserve (now the new state school grounds) was re-organised in 1892. Its colours are cardinal and royal blue, the subscription being 5s per season. The club officers for 1896 (43 years ago) were:—Messrs N. Moore (president), G. W. Deller, L. Nix, J. Bayliss Junr., Wm. Downard and W. G. King (vice-presidents); W. Bridge (captainh, W. H. Booth (secretary .and treasurer)', W. Booth and 11. Moore (committee). Personal Items. Mr A. Ingley, Belvedere Street, who has been away on sick leave,, returned on Saturday.
