DIAMOND WEDDING
MR AND MRS EDWIN SELBY. MARRIED IN MASTERTON IN 1879. The diamond anniversary of Mr and Mrs Edwin Selby's marriage, which took place in Masterton on July 5, 1879, falls tomorrow. Mr and Mrs Selby, who reside in Elizabeth Street, Masterton, were married by the Rev. John Dillon. Mrs Selby came out to New Zealand in the ship Douglas in 1874, leaving England in the first week of June and arriving here in November while Mr Selby left a fortnight later in the ship Cartvale. Following on their marriage they resided in Masterton until 1893, when they removed to Mangamutu, near Pahiatua, where Mr Selby had a small farm property and engaged in bridge building work in many parts of the district. After spending many years there, they again took up their residence in Masterton in 1920, where they have resided ever since. On his return to Masterton, Mr Selby continued to carry out bridge building and other work of a similar nature. He has lived in retirement during the past few years. Mr Selby is 86 years of age and Mrs Selby is 77. Members of the family are: Messrs George (Masterton), Thomas (Pahiatua), Edwin (Masterton), Robin and James Selby (Tahora) and Mrs D. N. Edwards (Wellington), and. Misses N. and F. Selby (Masterton). One son, Mr Harry Selby, was killed in the Great War. There are 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
