Mr and Mrs W. Nash and Mr and Mrs W. J. Jordan are officially visiting Dublin, a cablegram from London reports. Mr L. B. Maunsell, managing director of Hansell Laboratories Ltd., Masterton is visiting Wellington on business until Friday. Mr and Mrs O'Meara, the Misses Hull and Mr and Mrs Fox (Napier), are among guests at. the Hotel Midland.

Mr Maurice Tansley, of Invercargill, returned home today after having spent a holiday with his brother, Mr R. Tansley, manager of the Regent Theatre, Masterton.

Prior to his departure for Wellington on transfer, Mr M. G. Ellis, of the Masterton Post Office staff was farewelled by his fellow workers. The Postmaster, Mr M. M. Simpson, on behalf of the staff, presented him with a wristlet watch.

Overtures which may be followed by a call to a leading Presbyterian church in Adelaide, South Australia, have been received by the Rev J. R Blanchard, Minister of St John’s Church, Wellington. Mr Blanchard, who is widely known as one of lhe most eloquent preachers in the Dominion wont to Wellington 12 years ago in March last from Ross Memorial Church. Perth, Western Australia. when he succeeded the late Rev Dr J. Gibb, as minister at St John’s. The Prime Minister, Mr Savage, resumed his official duties yesterday after several days’ absence because of an attack of influenza. He presided at a meeting of Cabinet which occupied the greater part of the morning and afternoon. Mr Savage stated last evening that Ministers had been occupied in transacting business of a routine and administrative nature. Another meeting of Cabinet would be held this morning. Following an illness of more than a month, the death occurred of Mr John Harold Couper, Middle Road, Havelock North, a prominent sheep-farmer and a member of a well-known Hawke's Bay family. Mr Couper was born in Kahuranaki in 1892, and was a son of the late Mr W. A. X. Couper. He was associated with his father in farming for a number of years, and later engaged in farming on his own account. He leaves a widow but no family. There are two brothers, Messrs E. D. and W. A. Couper. both of Havelock North, and six sisters, Mesdames G. Rochfort, A. D. S. Whyte and Quartley. and Misses Grace, Margery and Ella Couper, all of Hawke's Bay. After 22 years loyal service with the firm of Messrs T. Wagg and Co Ltd, Mr George Ball was farewelled last night at a gathering of the staff and principals of the firm. Mr Ball first joined Messrs Wagg and Co in 1911 and in 191-1 he went into business in partnership with two Olliers at Pahiatua. In 1920, however, he again joined Messrs Wagg and Co’s staff and had been employed by them ever since. On behalf of the firm Mr Guy Wagg. managing director, presented Mr Ball with a fireside chair while Mr E. J. Eastwood presented him with n smoker's companion from the staff. All joined in wishing Mr Ball, who was accorded musical honours, every happiness in Ins years of retirement. The death has occurred of Mr George Weipers Ross, Taumarunui, at the age of G 9. Mr Ross was born at Sawyer’s Bay, Dunedin. In his early life he was engaged in surveying work, and surveyed the route for the first highway from Christchurch to Kaikoura. While still in his early twenties, lie came to the North Island, and was one of the first to engage in farming in the Wairarapa-Bush district. I.aler he farmed in Manawatu. Waikato and Matamata. Afterwards he was for many years manager of the Richmond • Downs Estate at Walton, and at the time of his death was manager of the Taringamutu-Totaro Timber Company farm at Taumarunui. a position he had held for seven years. Mr Ross is survived by his three daughters.
