MINIATURE RIFLES
BUSH DISTRICT ASSOCIATION. FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The first championship Miniature Rifle Championship under the juris diction of the Bush District Associa tion. was held in the Drill Hall. Pahiatua. On Saturday and was a decided success. The meeting was controlled by an energetic secretary. Mr J. D. Thomson, and a hard working executive. Mr C. J. DeLacey. secretary of the Wairarapa Association, at the invitation of the executive, supervised the whole proceedings and under his able advice and work the first essay went with a swing from the firing of the first shot at 1.30 p.m. to the last one in the final ten at 10.30 o’clock. For the inaugural meeting the entries were very good and comprised 58 A grade shooters, 29 B grade and eight ladies, coming from Wellington to Palmerston North. Metric targets were used and there was not a single possible registered all day with the exception of a 7 -shot possible that was registered by Miss Calder, of the Lower Hutt Radies' Club.
At the conclusion of the meeting the president of the Bush District Associa • ti,on, Mr L. J. Heayns, thanked the shooters for coming from so far afield as Wellington and Longburn and other places in such large numbers to make the gathering the success it had been. Ho also heartily thanked Mr DeLacey for coming to their aid to supervise and practically run the event for his association in their initial effort and he felt it was due to his organisation that the meeting had been such a success. He called for three cheers for Mr DeLacey and these were heartily given. Continuing, Mr Heayns said that just how far financial success had been achieved at the moment was not known, but the fact remained that the inaugural event was successfully over and henceforth they would hold an annual fixture. He hoped to see the com petitors all come back together with others. Before concluding he wished to thank his officials, especially the range officers, target stewards and scrutineers for the good work they had under taken and all who had in any way as sisted the meeting, not forgetting those ladies who looked after the catering arrangements, which was very much appreciated.
