“The turf spiker will .probably save 50 per cent of costs in top-dressing alone," states the annual report of the Canterbury Bowling Chib, which was presented at the annual meeting of the club. The club recently imported the turf spiker from Australia. The machine erates the surface of the green, and lowers the cost of watering. Miniature reservoirs are formed, allowing the water to percolate slowly to the roots, thereby adding vigour and growth to all grasses. The machine will spike 2000 square yards of turf in an hour.
