WORLD’S SMALLEST HOUSE

« The smallest house in the world, 39 rue du Chateau d’Eau, Paris, is to let. Its frontage measures 3 feet G inches in width and it has only one floor. Until recently it was occupied by a cobbler, unable to receive in his shop more than one customer at a time. To reach the dwelling—one room —above the shop, the occupier was obliged to shut his front door, walk up the street and round into a street at the back. It is not known whether the cobbler did the smallest amount of business in the world, but he has departed and the empty premises await a new tenant. Reproduced in photographs appearing in many newspapers, the smallest shop has sprung into the news, and now all Paris is waiting with curiosity to know who the new tenant will be.
