SUGAR PRICES

RISE OF £1 PER TON ANNOUNCED FLUCTUATIONS SINCE APRIL. Sugar prices continue to fluctuate. This morning a rise of £1 per ton was announced in all grades. One Masterton retailer expressed the view that it might be a good move if the price of sugar were fixed. Rises and reductions in the price of sugar have been taking place since April 1. On that date an increase of 10s per ton was announced, followed by further increases of 20s on April 22, 10s on April 29 and 20s on May 6. A reduction of 10s was made on May 29. followed by a further reduction of 20s on June 5. This morning’s increase makes the price per. ton £2 10s higher than it was on April 1. The effect on retail prices in Masterton has not been determined so far.
