SALVATION ARMY
FOUNDER’S DAY SERVICES. This year the Salvation Army is celebrating the 74th anniversary of the beginning of the Army’s work, when on July 5, 1865, William Booth went down to Mile End Waste in the East End of London and “found his destiny.” It is now nearly twenty-seven years since William Booth passed into the Great Beyond. ‘ it is difficult to grasp the significance of the Salvation Army, even numerically. Today the Salvation Army has 17,567 corps, and outposts; 1,673 social institutions, these being guided and controlled by 36,857 officers and full-time employees. These are scattered over 97 countries of the world. The Army, the result of the work of William Booth, is William Booth multiplied, for those who are really familiar with the spirit of the Army today are conscious that there is no departure from the purpose and passion of the founder. Special services featuring Founder’s Day will be conducted on Sunday in the Salvation Army Citadel by Major Mahaffie.
