MASTERTON CHESS CLUB

ARRANGEMENTS FOR OPENING NEW SEASON. An enthusiastic gathering of chess players took place in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening. A number of apologies for absence and promises of support were also received. It was decided unanimously to open the activities of the present season at an early date. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr Pane Kummer; president. Mr A. Clemas; vice-presidents. Messrs W. N. Kummer and L. T. Daniell: hon secretary and treasurer. Mr C. Clemas; - men’s committee. Messrs E. A. Heyder, N. Lamont and H. Glen; ladies’ committee. Mesdames H. Glen, N. Lamont and- A. Clemas. It was decided that the night of meeting should be Monday in each week, from 7.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m., the opening dale to be Monday, July 10. The place of meeting will be the Y.M.C.A. rooms. Ladder drawings will, be proposed on the opening night and ladder games will commence on the Monday following. The committee is desirous of emphasising the desire of the club to encourage new membership. Every assistance will be extended to beginners and less experienced players to learn the game and improve their play. The subscription has been fixed at a very low figure. Ladies and students are offered free membership.
