“Just a Statistic.”
The story of a speeding motorist, who was brought before a justice of peace, was told by Mr S. G. Holland. M.P., at the 21st birthday celebrations of the Canterbury Justices of the Peace Association. “I don’t want to fine you, or send you to gaol, or anything like that,” said the justice, “but be careful, young man, when you’re speeding, that you don’t become just . a statistic.” Model Plane Recovered. One of the two planes lost at Foxton recently at the model aeroplane flying contest held there was found yesterday five miles away. It belongs to Mr Allan Rowe, of Auckland, who has been visiting Masterton. The other plane, belonging to Mr Noel Churchouse, of Te Ore Ore, has not yet been located but an extensive search has been organised for tomorrow. Central Arcade. It should be generally known that the Central Arcade is a right-of-way for pedestrians only and that bicycles are not permitted to be ridden through the Arcade. The open space, adjoining the Plunket Society is actually private property, though the Masterton Borough Council makes every effort to keep it tidy. Two rubbish bins have been placed there for the convenience of the public and these are emptied every morning. Some people who lunch there, however, throw papers about indiscriminately and it is not an unusual experience to find that during the night the hooligan element in the community has emptied the rubbish bins of their contents and scattered the rubbish far and wide.
