COURSING

SATURDAY’S MEETING,

On Saturday followers of coursing will have an opportunity of witnessing excellent sport at Akura as arrangements are well in hand to ensure the smooth running of the Physick Cup and Maiden Stakes. The hares in the enclousure are particularly strong and vigorous and are expected to provide some excellent contests.- They can be relied upon to reach the escapes after testing the. dogs to their utmost. The enclosure is in first class order, free from long grass and with a good surface of turf gives every dog competiting an unobstructed view for the leadup, while the excellent surface enables them to work the hare without suffering any injury. Mr D. Wilson’s Big Ben will be the popular fancy for the Cup as in his previous courses he went like a real champton, never leaving anything in doubt. He is producing the good form expected of him from last season when he won the Classic, the New Zealand St Leger. at Akura. Mrs W. Williams’s Onui Girl, will have her first outing this season in the Maiden Stakes. She has only to repeat her form of last season and she will be in the final. For this event a miniature cup has been donated by an anonymous follower of coursing and is to be won outright.
