TERRITORIAL FORCES
POSSIBILITY OF PLATOON AT CARTERTON. MEN AT PRESENT COMING TO MASTERTON. Following on the reorganisation of the Territorial forces in the Wairarapa and other districts, there is a possibility of a platoon being formed in Carterton. Much depends on whether a hall is available for drill purposes, as the hall formerly used has been converted into a picture theatre and dance hall. Men are offering for training at Carterton and at present 16, besides one from Featherston. attend drill every fortnight in Masterton. The men receive a travelling allowance towards the cost involved in attending drill. T t is hoped to determine the position re garding Carterton in the next week or so. During June as many as 27 Territorials from the Wairarapa attended instructional courses at Trentham. The courses embraced rifle and grenade, intelligence, mounted rifle drill and duties. infantry drill and duties, light machine-gun (Lewis) and recruits (mounted rifle and infantry).
