WRESTLING
McCready beats donovan. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. In fine fettle after his 18-month tour abroad, British Empire champion wrestler Earl McCready won his init- ' ial bout in Wellington last night. He beat Jack Donovan by a single fall, secured in orthodox fashion with dump and press, in the sixth round of a strictly orthodox bout, remarkable for science rather than for fireworks. The Town Hall was packed; McCready’s many supporters gave him a rousing welcome back. The bout was notable in that no elbow jolts intruded till the third round, when Donovan, failing to outwrestle his opponent, had recourse to rougher tactics. McCready, however, only let fly four jolts in the whole bout. But those four proved singularly effective. McCready was greeted with a tremendous ovation. He appeared in splendid physical condition, weighing 17st 21b to Donovan's lGst 81b. The first few rounds were a fine exhibition of straight wrestling, the protagonists exchanging holds in quick succession on the mat, with never an unseemly outburst of “rough stuff'’ to shatter the peace.
