FEATHERSTON
LITERARY INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Featherston Literary Institute was held yesterday,' Mr R. W. Matthews presiding over a fair attendance of members., The report stated: The Institute's year has been very successful in that regular purchases of new books were able to be made from Institute funds supplemented by private donations. The children’s section in particular benefited to the extent of £l6 from a private grant. The Country Library Service commenced in December last and the free service to. residents in the borough is reflected in the membership increase, 75 to 190, including 27 country subscribers. The service provides 150 books which are changed every four months. With the increase in membership this number is not adequate and arrangements have been made with the Borough Council to purchase additional books at regular intervals from part of the Bidwill bequest. A new card index system was put into operation some months ago and has justified the change. During the year the Institute Was painted, shelving altered in the lending section and the room repapered. The lighting was also considerably improved. The committee express their appreciation, to all who assisted with donations of cash, books, periodicals and fittings. The report was adopted.
