SOUTH AFRICAN MINISTER’S SUGGESTION. ARRANGEMENT OF "FAIR COMPENSATION.” By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. DURBAN. June 24. ' Speaking at Lydenburg, the Defence Minister, Mr Pirow, said: "It is impossible to return Tanganyika and South West Afri ca to Germany, but fair compensation must be arranged by means of negotiations.” He announced that everybqdy. on reaching military age, would undergo physical training for the active Citizen Force or the Defence Rifle Association.
A cablegram from Berlin yesterday reported that a Foreign Office spokesman. commenting on Mr Pirow’s speech, said: “There can be no question of compensation for the loss of our colonies. We demand that the injustice of Versailles shall be redressed by the return of our colonies. Only then shall we be ready to discuss the redistribution of all colonial possessions.”
