SOME GOOD DIVIDENDS RECORDED

Mataroa Has Good Win at Otaki

(By

“CARBINE.”)

UNCLE JIM COMES HOME IN DROMORE STEEPLECHASE

Considerable interest was centred round the Otaki Maori Racing Club’s second winter meeting on Saturday owing to the fact that several of the runners were likely to take part at Trentham early next month. Yours Truly paid a rare prices when he won the Taipua Handicap. The consistency of Mataroa was rewarded with success in the Ta Timi Kara Handicap. The jumping double went to Lactose and Lustral.

At Ashburton Uncle Jim, who started at 9-8 favourite, was first past the post in the Dromore Steeplechase in a race in which only four of the starters finished. Garment, who was also a rank outsider, came home in the Lyndhurst Trot, while Maroha surprised with a win in the Mayfield Hack Handicap. The Andrew Kay Memorial Hack and Hunters’ Steeples event at Waipa went to Gadger, who was an outsider. Sir Musk was first home in the W. G. Park Steeplechase, while Maori Song annexed the Woodstock Stakes. The tracks were in most cases holding and there were good attendances.
