DONATION REFUSED

WAIRARAPA AND RUAHINE AERO CLUB. WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY’S DECISION. , (“Times-Age” Special.) “Why did the Masterton County turn its own club down?” asked Councillor E. W. Allen at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the South Wairarapa County Council, when a request for a donation from the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club was under consideration. The Clerk, Mr E. T. Beaven: “Of course, we don’t know what’s behind matters of this nature.” Councillor F. W. Joblin “As Masterton did not support their own club I don’t see why we should.” Councillor A. E. Reid: “Just because others do certain things it does not follow that we have to.”' Councillor Joblin. “The Government now has big flying schools. Is the thing worth supporting? We can’t support everything. ' I would rather make a grant to the crippled children than the aero club. It’s only a social club anyhow.” Councillor Reid :“Oh no. They’re doing excellent work in training pilots, especially Civil Reserve pilots. The chairman, Mr D. McGregor: “Yes they are definitely doing good work.” Councillor Joblin moved and. Councillor Allen seconded that no donation be made. Councillor Reid moved an amendment that the county grant £lO. Councillor C. A. Cameron seconded the amendment pro fprma. The amendment was lost and the motion that no donation be made was carried.
